Elders bike 1,444 km to welcome Olympic Games

To greet the 2008 Olympic Games, three old men travelled 1,444 kilometres by bicycle from Baoji, Shaanxi Province, to Beijing, the Beijing Times reports.

The three travelled through three provinces over 12 days and finally reached their destination - Tian'anmen Square - to attend a flag-raising ceremony.

They spent a month planning the trip, including mapping out specific places they would pass and distances they would cover.

The trio, the oldest being 71, travelled more than 100 kilometres each day no matter whether it was rainy or windy.
